Lim Teong Kim has left Malaysia for good and has returned to Munich, Germany. ⁣

In 2013, I convinced Kim to come back to Malaysia to lead the National Football Development Programme (NFDP).

2013 photo: The 50-year-old Teong Kim, with 12 years of youth coaching experience with German champions Bayern Munich, will begin work in November in a bid to help Malaysia qualify for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2019.

He was a hard taskmaster.

He pushed the boys to their limits. He demanded the best from his coaches.

He had his detractors. And we disagreed many times. But I let him do his job. We may not have qualified for the next U17 World Cup, but the seeds that Kim has planted will blossom one day. As long as the system that he helped build isn’t destroyed by certain parties. ⁣

It was a great ride, Herr Lim.

I told you development is a long term proposition.

I’m just sad we did not get to see things through. ⁣
