Sarawak today records its first COVID-19 cases where three (3) persons had been tested positive.
Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the two(2) were from the cluster attending the “Ijtimak” (religious gathering) in Sri Petaling Mosque in Selangor from February 28 to March 1 recently, while the Case 3 is a family member.
“Therefore, we are appealing to all those attending that gathering and who are in Sarawak to immediately contact the nearest hospitals for COVID-19 investigation. So far, Sarawak Health Department had tracked 236 participants (refer to Table 1) and will continue to track the remaining. He advised those who had attended the gathering in Sri Petaling to also abide by directive from the Majlis Islam Sarawak that was issued on 12 March 2020. ”
The State Disaster Management Committee would like to assure the public that the Sarawak Health Department is prepared to face any eventuality arising from COVID-19 in its designated hospitals namely Sarawak General Hospital, Sibu Hospital, Bintulu Hospital and Miri Hospital. Quarantine centres have been set up in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri and are ready for operation.
